Let’s talk about guest portraits.

As a live wedding artist, I love painting portraits of all your guests. It’s such a privilege to be asked to do this.

Although they’ve been around for a little while, they have gained much interest through TikTok and social media channels across the world.
I love painting guest portraits and I will sound a bit harsh here but it will be said.
Recently I have had a lot of enquiries that are perhaps a bit unrealistic. Requests to paint 100s guests. Can I hang them on a crisp packet display when I’m done ? 😳 Absolutely not!

There seems to be a misconception that this is what is being achieved by sketch artists.
Perhaps new artists are popping up and offering to do this. Or perhaps some artists can offer digitalised sketches of your guests which might be produced quicker.

The reality is, having now sketched guests at over the past few years … quality over quantity.

• My couples, who have invited me to share their most special day, deserve excellence.
• it is exhausting to hand paint for 6,8,10 hours per event. It is not healthy to sit in the same position all this time. It is not healthy to use brain juice for this amount of time. (Thank you to all my lovely brides who have fed me. And I’ve pinched a bit of your wedding cake at the end of the night for my drive home 😅)
• Postcard size illustrations are not necessary quicker …they’re just harder to do with those little smaller faces.
• Not everyone will be painted. These sketches are for entertainment and not suitable to promise to your guests as wedding favours on the day if you have a large wedding .
  Unless of course you have agreed with your artist to book additional studio time.

*50 guests, I would personally say – per event – would be appropriate to be contracted – 25 sketches.
Any number higher than this, I paint at discretion depending on how the day is going .

• side note – yes I have sketched large amounts of guests in my earlier days .I was not able to drive home those nights.

Guest portraits I predict will continue to become more popular. Maybe they won’t . What do I know ?😂
